Fashion as Identity

This blog is an attempt to explore fashion as a way of expressing ourselves. i hope to look closely at stereotypes associated with different styles the relationships between different cliques as portrayed in the media. I feel that fashion as an identity is a universal concept that will open doors in the classroom for positive discussion. As an art educator I hope to inspire young people to create and express themselves through fashion rather than consume identities.

google image searches:image hunting

I feel weird about taking images from Google. I have so many folders stored on my computer. Currently there are about 8 folders purely inspirational imagery on my computer. Many of them are folders for fashion ideas, I can try to make my own. I have been working with the idea of making abstract paintings from tulle fabric. I try to steal ideas and elements from fashion to make my own work. The work by this fashion designer is pretty amazing. I feel as though the connection to fashion and art become really apparent when I see this work.

work by Viktor & Rolf

This is also a great artistic practice to pass onto students.
